Text messaging from your computer using Windows Live Messenger is easy, but requires the person you wish to text be signed up to receive your text. You must also sign up if you wish to be sent text messages when you are away from your computer to your mobile phone. Here are the steps.
Go to tools in messenger =Alt T. Arrow up to options and hit inter.
Shift tab to bring your reader to the options list. Arrow down until you fined mobile phone. Tab once and you’ll find settings, if you tab again you’ll find the message, allow friends to send messages to my mobile phone; that box must be checked. Go back up to settings and hit the inter key. This will bring you to Windows Live for Mobile page. You can go directly to this page and setup as well, but you must then complete the steps in your messenger, so it seems simpler to me just to get it from there. The URL is http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mobile?URL=%2Fedit&mobID=1&wlexpid=EC2C2B632B5C45D6939DA37B0E6B008D&wlrefapp=2
Now depending on what type of phone you have you’ll find several links. You can have both Hotmail and messenger on your phone, but the simplest way to get started is to locate the sign up link. You’ll find it near the bottom of the page. On the next page follow the directions. You’ll receive a text message on your phone to use to set it up, but the directions will explain all of this. The text will be pretty simple, so it is easy to understand.
All other messenger clients offer this service, such as Yahoo, and AIM as well. The process is similar, but different. If anyone desires instructions on either of these post and I’ll give them. I was asked about this one.

Now that you have your mobile connected and have friends that also have their mobiles connected you’ll want to send text. Go to the contacts name n the main window of messenger. To send them a text it doesn’t matter if they are online or not, however, if you are using Windows live 2011 you must show as online, busy, or away. If your status is set to appear offline you’ll not be able to send your message. In the XP messenger it doesn’t matter. Now you have the name hit your applications key, or shift F 10 to open your friend’s options. Arrow down to send text message and hit inter. It is 2 way just like a regular message. You can even send a text while your friend is online.

I got it set up but I find that doesn't always send the texts.
And its configured properly.

The person you are sending the text to must have his or hers setup to receive them via WLM. Example, if you see on your contacts list the persons name and SMS then you can text them, but if not you can't. Also some cell providers don't work like local mobile companies, but all the major ones do. So anyone you want to text tell them to set up as well, or you have to use a service that allows you to send from your computer such as bullentin.net. With that you can send them to anyone no matter what.
